GHSD is located in close proximity to Calgary, a major Canadian City known for its thriving oil and gas industry, national sports teams, and for hosting the 1988 Winter Olympic Games. Zusätzlich zu den Hauptfächern des ‘Alberta Learning Academic Program’ mit den Kursen in ‘English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Career and Life Management’ werden Fächer aus den folgenden Bereichen angeboten: Z.B. ‘Languages (French, German, Spanish by Distance Ed), French Immersion, Fine Arts Courses, Band, Choir, Drama and Career & Technology’.
Des Weiteren gibt es große Anzahl von sogenannten ‘Electives’, Wahlfächern: z.B. ‚Wood Shop, Metalworking, Photography, Marketing, Design Studies, Digital Design, Web-Building; Cooking, Hairstyling, Carpentry, Automotives, Welding, Computers, Tourism, Sewing’.
Auch haben Schüler die Möglichkeit Mitglied in einem Team zu werden: ‘Basketball, Volleyball, Golf, Track, Football, Cross Country Running, Swimming, Curling, Badminton’ oder an einem der zahlreichen ‘extra-curricular activities‘ teilzunehmen.
Schüler, die nicht genügend Englischkenntnisse haben, nehmen am ESL-Programm (English Second Language) teil. In regelmäßigen Abständen werden die Schüler überprüft, damit sie ihr bestmögliches Ergebnis erzielen können.

As an alternative to arranging home stay why not living in one of the dormitories: Drumheller Valley Sec. School + Strathmore High School? GHSD is the only public school system with 2 Boarding Facilities for international students. Both residencies provide students with a comfortable, safe environment that allows them to focus on their studies, as well as interact socially with their peers.
