About the School District

Saskatoon Catholic Schools is a publicity-funded Catholic school system founded in 1884. The schools offer a Government established and approved academic curriculum that allows graduates to attend universities across North America.

  • 43 schools – about 15,000 students in total
  • schools are designed with bright, comfortable learning environments and modern teaching facilities with the latest in equipment
  • small international population – International/Canadian students ratio 1:80

The Schools

The 4 High Schools are fully modern education facilities of about 700 – 1,100 students, Grades 9 to 12. Science and computer labs employ the latest in technological resources. Professional theatres house the performing arts. Other resources include large libraries, state-of-the-art fine arts facilities, modern practical art labs, and double gymnasia that support our Championship teams and many extracurricular activities.

The four High Schools offer:

  • Mathematics, Mathematics AP, Mathematiques, Calculus, Calculus AP
  • Sciences: Science, Science Humaines, Biology, Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics
  • Social Science: Social Studies, History, Histoire, Native Studies, Law, Psychology, Sociology
  • Fine Arts: Arts Education, Studio Arts, Band, Choral, Music, Drama
  • Physical Education, Health Physical Education, Wellness
  • Practical & Applied Arts: Practical Arts, Career & Work Exploration, Clothing, Textile & Fashion, Commercial Cooking,  Creative Writing, Driver Education, Entrepreneurship, Food Studies, Graphic Arts, Home Economics, Information Processing, Industrial Arts, Interior Design, Journalism, Photo Graphics, Visual Art
  • Christian Ethics: Each student must take one Cristian Ethics class once in two semesters. If a student comes for one semester only, he does not have to take this class.

The School Year

Semester 1:          September – January
Semester 2:          February – June

There is a two week holiday at Christmas, a break in February, and a 10 day break at Easter. The school day operates on a five period day => students take 5 different classes per semester – beginning at 8:35 and ending at 3:15. Classes are 55 minutes long.

A large variety of extracurricular activities are available to students before and after school.

As well, there are many community clubs and activities in Saskatoon: Tennis, Rowing, Canoe, Swimming, Softball, Baseball, Rugby, Hockey, Chess, etc.

International Student Support

Our high schools provide a wide course of studies that allow students to continue their studies throughout the world. Students who graduate from SCS academic programs are eligible to apply to postsecondary institutions in Canada, the UISA, ant the world.

Homestay Program

Saskatoon Catholic Schools will arrange legal Custodianship for students under the age of 18, free of charge.

Our homestay program selects a safe and caring home where students are part of a family, learn Canadian culture, and gain fluency in English.

The program is supervised and monitored by the Saskatoon Catholic Schools to ensure that each student has an excellent experience. Host families are carefully screened, selected, and supervised, and are close to schools.

A private, furnished bedroom, easily accessible bathroom, and three meals a day are provided.

The homestay family treats the students as part of the family and includes him or her in their family activities.

Saskatoon and the prairies are very popular among Germans.  The city is made up mainly of German, English, French, and Ukrainian ancestry.
