INFORMATION ON CANADA

Canada is spread over more than half of the North American continent. After Russia, it is the second largest country in the world and is about 28 times bigger than Germany. In the South, Canada shares an approximately 9.000 km long East to West boarder with the United States of America. The Western Canada boarders on the Pacific Ocean, lies the North on the Arctic Ocean and the East on the Atlantic. This huge country is divided into 10 provinces and 3 territories with 6 different time zones from east to west. The time difference between Germany and British Columbia is 9 hours. In British Columbia too there is a one hour time change from winter to Summer.
The French and the British explorers in the 16th and 17th century were the first explorers coming to Canada. With the first inhabitants, the ‘First Nations’ they established the basis for the later multicultural Canada. From the 18th century to the early 20th century, there were waves of immigrants from Northern Europe as well as from China and South Asia. The present Canada has inhabitants from all over the world.
The Canada of today with its about 31 population is a modern and highly developed country with a multicultural society, which is a part of Canada’s official policy. The federal multicultural law gives equal rights to all Canadian citizens, irrespective of their origin, religion, race or colour. The Canada of today with its vast expanse, its magnificent countryside, its diverse flora and fauna, its varied animal world and its big towns in the east and the west still offers the modern pioneer adventure.
